Therapy ! How does that work?
Some people would like to liken therapy to an art, while others insist that it is a science based on evidence and research. By the majority of psychiatric disorders both medicine and talk therapy is the most optimal way to go. and frequently patients and clients find themselves torn between more than one service provider to ensure tackling all aspects of their complaints. I believe that therapy is a craft, that requires a carefully prepared formula between addressing the body and touching the soul.
While medication take the top bottom route of change starting with the brain chemistry and structure then function. Psychotherapy aims to target an intentional change in behavior, perception and experience which gets reflected on the brain and its workings.
Therapy Techniques
Therapy techniques play a crucial role in the healing process, offering clients various approaches tailored to their unique needs. Our therapist employs a range of methods to ensure each individual receives personalized care. These techniques include the below described techniques among others, all aimed at fostering emotional wellbeing and promoting personal growth.
Mindfulness
The term mindfulness refers to a practice introduced by J Kabat Zin to modern day therapy after his journey to Tibetan Monks in the 70s. It is generally defined as the non-judgmental perception and acceptance to the present moment and represents a shift in the quality of awareness of the individuals . regularly practicing mindfulness exercises is led to cultivate a new awareness level known as mindful state which can possibly become a trait, meaning a part of the individual baseline life experience, although some people seem to have trait mindfulness without practicing. Mindfulness based therapies have extended in many areas and patient and non-patient populations including chronic pain, and has been linked to many benefits with regards to attention and sensory perception. The acceptance component of mindfulness endorses in its philosophy a deep view of change as an inevitability of existence , it hence embraces pain, loss and adversity without judgment as a part of the a change process and like the waves coming and going, provides peace to human soul and opens door for curiosity to the mind to explore what's coming without judgment or previous experience or cultural predispositions.
Dr Reham has been one of the first therapists to practice mindfulness based therapy groups with addiction patients in the inpatient of cairo university Kasralainy hospitals since 2014. Dr Fahmy translated the mindfulness based workshop book by Goldstein and … and cuturallz adapted its content to lead groups of mindfulness based group therapy sessions.
Systemic family therapy
Systemic therapy is a form of psychotherapy that views individuals within their social and relational context, such as their family, work, or community. It focuses on the patterns of interaction and communication within the group, rather than just the individual, to address problems. It is known for utilizing visualizations and materializations of situations rather than words to change perspective and motivate solutions. This approach helps people identify and change unhealthy dynamics and behaviors within their systems and reach clarity of concept about the world, their relationship and themselves.
Psychodynamic therapy
This Therapy technique focuses on self-examination and self-reflection as well as the use of the relationship between therapist and patient as a means to gain insight into problematic relationship patterns in the patient’s life. Hence it doesn't directly aim for symptoms but involves long term change in patterns and thus sustaining a healthier life.
According to a Dr. Jonathan Shelder “The American public has been told that only newer, symptom-focused treatments like cognitive behavior therapy or medication have scientific support" But "The actual scientific evidence shows that psychodynamic therapy is highly effective. The benefits are at least as large as those of other psychotherapies, and they last.”
